Brief History

Welcome to Lewsey Pentecostal Church, formerly Lewsey Christian Centre.

We are a multi-national, multi-cultural, and multi-generational Assemblies of God (AoG) church located in Lewsey Farm, Luton. Our church is a great place to be with lots going on and plenty to get involved with, irrespective of your age.

The church was founded in 1970 as Leagrave Pentecostal Church and believers met on Compton Avenue, a stone's throw from Leagrave train station. Five years later, the church acquired a piece of land on the Lewsey Farm housing estate and construction began under the leadership of Pastor Clive Beckenham.

Others whose hearts were stirred to put their call into action included Johnny Glasgow, Roy (Bash) Banstable and Walter Beckenham. A handful of families stepped out in faith not knowing what the future held in store for them. They were driven by a desire to build a place where people could congregate to worship the Lord.

Their commitment was exemplified by the decision of all the men in the church not to work overtime at their respective workplaces and dedicate those extra hours to the building project. The new church building was opened on 10 January 1975.

Since then, the Lord has been expanding our horizons and shaping us to be a light for our community. We rejoice and thank God for every person whose life has been impacted by our ministry. To God be the glory!

We remember our humble beginnings with thanksgiving as we continue to build upon the faithful work of those who served the Lord before us.

Today, we too can echo the words of Paul: 'The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it.' (1 Thessalonians 5:24)

Why Pentecost? For many people, ‘Pentecostal’ is just a strange religious word. But its roots go back to the outpouring of the Holy Spirit in Acts 2. On the Day of Pentecost, Peter reminded his audience that God would pour out His Spirit upon all flesh. He further promised that the Pentecostal experience was for ‘all those afar off, even as many as the Lord our God shall call.’ (Acts 2:39).

We believe that this life-changing promise still holds true today. While God's great gift to the sinner is Jesus, the Spirit is His precious gift to the believer.

We hope you feel welcome here at Lewsey Pentecostal Church whether you visit for a morning or become a life-long member.

We rejoice and thank God for every person whose life has been impacted by our ministry.
