What is Salvation?
How to Become a Christian
What must I do to be saved?
Of all the questions in human existence, none is more important than this. Thankfully, the answer is not hidden; it’s clearly revealed in the Bible.
To receive God’s gift of salvation, each person must make a direct and personal response to Jesus Christ. This response is described in various ways throughout the Bible: accepting Christ as Lord and Saviour, coming to Christ, receiving Christ, being born again, turning to Christ, or repentance.
Many people have attended church regularly, served actively, or been baptised. Some have even been educated in Christian schools or participated in mission programs. Yet, they have never personally encountered the truth of the gospel or experienced salvation for themselves.
The gospel rests on three essential facts, revealed in 1 Corinthians 15:3-4. These are the truths to which each person must respond in faith:
- Christ died on the cross for our sins.
- He was buried
- God raised Him from the dead on the third day.
Salvation is received by believing in these simple, life-changing truths. It is not about rituals, ceremonies, or religious effort – it is about faith in the finished work of Jesus.
The Bible is clear: ‘Yet to all who did receive Him, to those who believed in His name, He gave the right to become children of God…‘ – John 1:12
In John 3:1-8, Jesus speaks of a personal, transforming experience that is essential: being born again. While every human is born physically into the world, Jesus says that to see or enter the Kingdom of God, we must be spiritually reborn – born of the Holy Spirit.
This new birth imparts the very life of God into the soul and marks the beginning of a real relationship with Him. This is not optional. According to Jesus, it’s absolutely necessary.
The Bible also tells us that Jesus stands at the door of your heart, patiently waiting for you to open it to Him (Revelation 3:20). Welcoming Jesus into your life is the most important decision you will ever make. It changes everything – now and for eternity.
Pray this Prayer
Lord Jesus,
I believe you are the Son of God and the only way to the Father. I believe you died on the cross for my sins, were buried, and rose again on the third day. Thank you for paying the ultimate price to redeem me, forgive my sins, and deliver me from the power of darkness. Please forgive me for every sin I’ve committed, both known and unknown. Cleanse me by your precious blood, and receive me as your own. Write my name in your Book of Life. From this day forward, I choose to follow you. Help me understand more deeply your sacrifice on the cross, and empower me by your Spirit to live a life that truly honours you. Amen.
Congratulations!
