Our Story
We are a vibrant, multi-national, multi-cultural, and multi-generational Assemblies of God (AoG) church located in the heart of Lewsey Farm, Luton.
Whether you’re just visiting or looking for a spiritual home, our church is a place where people of all ages can belong, grow, and get involved.
Lewsey Pentecostal Church began in 1970 as Leagrave Pentecostal Church, where a small group of believers gathered on Compton Avenue, near Leagrave train station. Just five years later, led by Pastor Clive Beckenham, the church acquired land in the newly developed Lewsey Farm housing estate.
Construction of the new building began — not through professional contractors, but through the dedication of ordinary church members with extraordinary faith.
Men like Johnny Glasgow, Roy (Bash) Banstable, and Walter Beckenham, along with a handful of devoted families, stepped out in faith. Determined to establish a house of worship, these men even chose to forgo overtime at work so they could invest their time in building the church.
Their selfless sacrifice culminated in the opening of the new building on 10 January 1975.
Since those early days, the Lord has continued to expand our vision and impact. We celebrate every life touched by this ministry and give all the glory to God.
We honour our humble beginnings with gratitude as we continue to build on the foundation laid by those who faithfully served before us. Like the Apostle Paul, we confidently declare: 'The One who calls you is faithful, and He will do it' (1 Thessalonians 5:24).
Why Pentecost?
To some, Pentecostal might seem like an unfamiliar term. But its roots trace back to Acts 2, where the Holy Spirit was poured out on the Day of Pentecost. As Peter declared, this promise was not just for those present that day, but for 'all who are far off — for all whom the Lord our God will call' (Acts 2:39).
We believe that this life-changing experience is still available today. While Jesus is God’s great gift to the sinner, the Holy Spirit is His precious gift to the believer — empowering us to live transformed lives and serve with boldness.
Whether you’re here for a Sunday service, a special event, or considering making Lewsey Pentecostal Church your spiritual home, we warmly welcome you. We hope you experience God’s presence, love, and grace as part of our church family.
