Church Membership

We believe that every Christian should be part of a local church through formal membership. The New Testament consistently reflects this model — with most letters addressed to churches or church leaders — demonstrating the significance of belonging and accountability within a defined spiritual community.

Much of the language in Acts only makes sense in the context of structured, recognised church membership. Consider phrases like:

  • 'The whole congregation' (Acts 6:5)
  • 'The church in Jerusalem' (Acts 8:1)
  • 'The disciples' in Jerusalem (Acts 9:26)
  • 'In every church' (Acts 14:23)
  • 'The whole church' (Acts 15:17)
  • 'The elders of the church' in Ephesus (Acts 20:17)

These references imply identifiable communities with clear leadership and membership.

In the New Testament, believers were deeply committed to one another — in principle and in practice. At Lewsey Pentecostal Church, membership is a commitment to that same kind of intentional, Christ-centered community

What Membership Means

Membership at Lewsey Pentecostal Church is grounded in a personal commitment to Jesus Christ and a public confession of His Lordship. It is more than attendance — it’s about partnership, covenant, and calling.

By becoming a member, you are saying:

  • 'I believe God has planted me here to worship, grow, and serve.'
  • 'I align with the vision, values, and leadership of this church.'
  • 'I’m committed to doing life together with this church family.'

As a member, you:

  • Affirm and accept our Statement of Faith which can be found here.
  • Submit to the spiritual leadership of the Pastor and Elders.
  • Participate actively in the life and mission of the church.

Membership Criteria

  • Repent and confess the Lordship of Jesus
  • Be baptised in water by immersion
  • Be filled with the Holy Spirit for daily living

If you are a member of another Assemblies of God (AoG) church, you may request a transfer letter from your current Pastor. This letter, confirming your membership status, should be submitted to the Pastor at Lewsey.

Transfers from non-AoG churches may also be considered. Once approved, new members will be formally welcomed during a public service.

Similarly, if you are transferring away from Lewsey or wish to resign your membership, we can provide a reference letter upon request.

How to Become a Member

  1. Start the conversation — speak with the Pastor or one of the Elders.
  2. Attend a membership interview with the Pastor and Elders
(You’ll share your testimony and learn more about our church)
  3. Be welcomed into the church family during a Sunday service.

Membership isn’t just adding your name to a register; it’s entering into a relationship with fellow believers to serve the Lord faithfully together.

Active & Inactive Members

An Active Member is a person who has been received into membership and fulfills the following responsibilities:

  • Lives a committed Christian life.
  • Regularly attends and participates in church life.
  • Gives financially in support of the church.
  • Submits to the spiritual leadership of the church.

An inactive member

  • No longer meets the criteria above.
  • May be removed from the Membership Register if:
  • They request resignation or transfer;
  • They are inactive for over 12 months;
  • They have passed away.

The Membership Register is reviewed annually.

We'd love to welcome you!

If you sense God is calling you to make Lewsey Pentecostal Church your spiritual home, we would be honoured to talk with you about membership.

What is expected of our members?

Membership comes with the responsibility of attending the main services - unless away or unwell. (Heb. 10:25).

Members are strongly expected to get involved in at least one area of ministry. We want you to use your gifts for the common good. (1 Cor. 12:7; Rom. 12:4-8)

We rely on the generous giving of our members to finance ministry expenditure and the costs of running and maintaining our premises. We encourage members to give willingly and cheerfully (2 Cor. 8:1-9; 2 Cor. 9:6-7).

Maintain a lifestyle in line with the ethical and moral teachings of the Bible. We are called to live holy lives to please and honour the Lord. Those unwilling to do so are ineligible for church membership. (1 Cor. 6:9-11)

We believe it is Biblical to respect the church leadership. We try to keep a balance between the requirement that leaders be allowed to lead, and that they must be humble and approachable! (Heb. 13:17; 1 Peter 5:1-3)

Prayer is a vitally important part of the life of the church. We ask and encourage everyone committed to Lewsey Pentecostal Church to pray especially for our Pastor, his wife, and all the Elders. (Eph. 6:18-20)

Home Groups are an opportunity to find out more about Christianity in a small and relaxed setting. When you join a small house group, you get to know others and be known by them, encourage and be encouraged. (Acts 2:42-47; Acts 20:20)

Jesus commands us to love another: 'By this all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another' (John. 13:35). If we don’t love one another, we cannot claim to be His disciples.
